Arlington, VA – The federal budget deficit grew to $68 billion in June, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement, released today by the U.S. Treasury. This marks the 21st straight month of red ink for the federal budget.
Gretchen Hamel, Executive Director of Public Notice, said the following:
“No one should be surprised by today’s news. Regrettably, the only ‘plan’ we hear from Congress is for more of the same explosive spending that has made a bad economic and fiscal situation even worse.
We’ll never break this cycle of ever-higher deficits, ever-higher debt, and ever-fewer growth opportunities if Congress continues to govern with blinders on.
It’s time for Washington to hear Americans’ clear message: this ‘plan’ isn’t working, in fact, it’s hurting. It’s time to focus on policies that truly strengthen the economy and spur job creation; and none of that will happen until Washington acts responsibly and gets its spending under control.”
