Another "stimulus"?

A slew of new initiatives aimed at jumpstarting economic growth are being announced this week. The proposals include $50 billion in infrastructure spending, extending the tax credit for research and development, and a capital investment tax write-off.

Some in Washington are adamant that these new measures aren’t just another round of stimulus. We decided to take a closer look. Are these proposals a fresh approach or are they just more stimulus spending?

  1. Looking over your site, it becomes clear very quickly that you are pointing fingers, affixing blame, you are taking a partisan viewpoint and you tilted toward a Republican/tea party agenda.

I have no problem with a website taking a specific viewpoint, but don’t try to pass off your “education” as anything more than doing yet another soft sell for the GOP. At least have the honesty to say so and tell us who is funding your site and those Madison Ave style TV commercials you have to drive your traffic to the site.

You claim you are educating people about government spending and you use TARP are the principle culprit for the supposition that this nation of going bankrupt, yet you mention nothing about the G. W. Bush tax cuts for the wealthy that are driving the deficit.

    costs still associated with

    @Keil:
The Tea Party is NOT about republicans.
It is about stopping all big government.
Yes, the republicans lean that way slightly more than democrats…
That is how the party gets demonized… lumped in with all the crooks on the right, by the crooks on the left.

As to your attempt to demonize this site… get your facts straight, or at least read more than one article on this site.

Lets be for real people. This website is not about pointing fingers. Its about standing up for the rights of the American people that our representatives seem to have forgotten. Now they figure throwing money at the big businesses will help when the small business are suffering. When does this money go to the people? I always thought that the money that they spent on stimulus should have gone back to the people for their bills and the banks would not have suffered either. But instead the banks got the money and the people still suffer. Hello? The plan you had before didn’t work. What makes you think doing it again will.

  5. Anthony says:

To the first response–even if that were true, what matters is how to get out of this mess, not so much how we got into it. And we will not get out of this mess because of government regulations or initiatives, but by individuals. This country was built upon and flourished because of individuals, not because of government. That’s what the tea party is all about to me.

  6. Jim B says:

Yeah, but what is the good hear? We all know there are issues but what can we do about them. Government has the power and does not listen to the people anymore. The bigger issue is that the government is run by the banks that own the Fed. That’s where all the issues lie, if we get off the Fed Act and move to printing our own money instead of buying it from private banks (which the Fed is) then the country will prosper. Until then it’s business as usual for the big money banks who bail themselves out at taxpayer costs. And let’s not forget that W’s grandfather was on the board that helped push thru the Fed Act of 1913. Abolish that act and all problems go away with government as they will no longer have to cower to the Fed and the banks that supply the money to the US at interest. The American Revolution was not fought over taxation, it was fought because England wouldn’t let the colonies print and use their own money, that is the reason America pursued freedom and it’s time to do it again. Read what Jefferson says about it and it will enlighten you. problem

  7. yeah-yeah says:

America was built on individuals? You mean all those independent revolutionaries that defeated the Brits all by themselves? Or all those individuals that decided idependently not to let the south cecede from the union? Oh, you mean those indviduals that indepently built the Empire State building. Or the Golden Gate bridge. Oh, yeah, and all those folks who just happened to end up all together in a god-forsaken corner of Nevada, and decided that would be a good place to put up a dam. Perhaps you refer to that massive monument to individualist effort that was WW2. Or all the individuals that just happened to craft the interstate highway system. Which allows a bunch of individuals to make a pretty decent living delivering goods and services. This individualist crap is one of the great mythos of our time, but no one ever responds to it. Can you imagine an economy full of individuals, all trying to make it by themselves? An nation of entrpreneurs? Its absurd. And yeah, I still want to know who is funding this site.

  8. TJATL says:

This all just more of the same whining with no solutions being offered. Anyone can sit around and complain no matter what policies are in place.
If you’re solution is to cut government spending, be specific about what you are going to cut. Anyone can just wish for less spending.
If you think paying down the deficit will create jobs, please connect the dots with sound logic. I don’t see it.

  9. Stephen says:

Every time I speak about the government spending too much money, someone says well it’s Bush’s fault and we shouldn’t vote for republicans because of that or it’s all Obama’s fault. It isn’t a right-side left-side issue. People are still so stuck on the propaganda that Both sides put out that we have lost the real issue. The real truth is that is both sides spend too much and our government isn’t our government anymore. We need to take back the government, stop the spending on anything that isn’t needed and doesn’t make sense. Balance the budget and make legislation to prevent the government growth in the future. The tea party is a great thing because it is real people not established politicians. To those left minded Americans: Stop hating the Tea Party, stop demonizing them based on the rhetoric of D.C., make a left minded, grassroots party of your own that takes back the government for like minded people. Stop letting D.C> tell you what is right and wrong, make those decisions yourself.

If this website bothered to address the wasteful spending for the war in the middle east, I would listen.

If these people care about or dept, they would understand that at some point, taxes would have to go up and as a country we are responsible for what we have done.

P.S. I wouldn’t have my new job if it wasn’t for the stimulus. If we stop the war cold turkey, a fraction of that money could support this country.

  11. Lisa says:

I’m from the Boston area, so the Tea Party is for me! We need to take care of our country NOW! It is my belief that foreigners dislike Americans is because we’re always butting into others issues. The gov’t we have need to stop “Do Gooding” elsewhere and do some GOOD here! Bring home our troops. Stop giving welfare, health care and tax breaks to foreigners. Immigrants should have to be sponsored like the good old days!

I work with a woman who’s mother came to this country 30 years ago at the age of 54. She has been collecting welfare, has had housing and health care all this time and NEVER worked a day in this country. Am I the only one who has a problem with this…doubt it.

  12. b gman says:

LOOK out CHRIS is cleaning up NJ mister o.

  13. pteates says:

    Okay,
we need a third party, a party of the people. The tea party is that party emerging as that party but it needs an outline of rules of conduct for its canidates. For example these would be some of those outlines that I have thought about. I would call it:
    THE TEA PARTY CREED

    1. You will not spend more than what is brought into the general fund.

    2. All pay raises for all politicians must be put to a vote and approved by a 66% majority of the people.

    3. When the economy is contracting, all departments of the government are to be cut according to the percentage of loss of revenue to the general fund. Example: If the general fund is down by 15% for the year of 2010 -2011, then all departments allocations and personnel positions are cut back that same amount. Effective on the first day of the new fiscal year.

    4. No Pork barrel spending. It steals from all of us, the taxpayer and our children.

    5. No More soft money.

    6. No more lobbiest on capitol hill and no acceptance of gifts from these lobbiest or the corporations that they represent.

    7. Free campaign time for all canidates on the television and the radio. Stations would set aside equal time for each canidate.

    8. No attacking your opponents in you campaign time. We are sick and tired of each canidate telling us how much a a liar their opponent is. We want to know, who you are and what are you going to do if elected. Specific plans and your vision.

    9. Budgets must be balanced by the first day of the fiscal year or the legislators do not get paid.
If it is 30 days overdue the legislators permanently loose 30% of their pay.
If it is 60 days overdue the legislators are kicked out of office. We the taxpayers deserve politicians who will do the job efficiently, on time, and with in budget. Lower positions in that government can be preassigned as interim legislators until elections are held for replacement canidates

    10. No more stimulus plans!

    11. Initiate a flat tax at state and federal levels. How much did you make? Pay this amount. Thank You!

  14. Jim says:

Our entire political system is broken. The two party system is a joke as it leads to more loyalty to the party than the people the politician represents. The amount of money that is spent on campaigns is sickening, especially when just about all campaign media has a negative bias. Can you envision a person interviewing for a job and telling the hiring manager “hire me because the other canidates are a bunch of jerks”? I believe that if you eliminate the need to raise money to run for/continue in a public office the politician’s emphasis changes for the general good.

    1. Today, with computers available to people who do not own their own (libraries, schools, churchs, etc) politicans can put their “resume” on a website for people to use in researching who will earn their vote.

    2. Pass laws to stop all campaign spending. If that is not possible, require all advertising to have a “vote for me because (qualifications)” not a “do not vote for my opponent because (distorted negatives)”. Advertising would not be allowed to mention an opponent.

Other changes on how congress operates should be made so that political action money does not drive the content of “bills” introduced and passed. Also, “pork barrel projects” should be eliminated.

Unfortunately most changes necessay to make the system better rely on the politicians supporting them and that will never happen.

Here in new Zealand many of us can hardly beleive what is happening to the USA, your debt national debt is astounding> What you need is some new ideas I suggest you dump the two party system (its basically a revolling dictatorship) like we did and try a from of proportional representation, it worked for us, new people new ideas

  16. LB Worsham says:

I agree; Money should be placed in the hands of indiduvals looking to put it to work – creating business’ and jobs for the country. Business’ not looking to do research work but create practical ways to benefit their community, its residents and society in general. Many of these business would probally be small.

WHAT IF, 100 small business’ put 15-30 indiduvals each, back to work – thats 1,500-3,000 jobs; not to mention the business owners. Indiduvals looking to open a small transportation service, a senior citizen home, a catering service, nursery, child care service, etc.

I believe billions of dollars of taxpayers money would best be served put in this direction – creating a much quicker return.

I also believe; The mortgage holders have nothing to loose by refinancing home loans – at the homes current value (reducing monthly payments) and as real estate values return, refinance according to the increased value of the home.

This would help many avoid misfortune in their lives. The banks would not be loosing anything – it would reduce the resentment many have for them by taking our tax dollars. It would show they are not just for themselves, but willing to do their share by helping the country also.
