VIDEO: the truth about our jobs crisis

The jobs report released on Friday shows that unemployment persists at 9.6 percent. As high as this number is, it doesn’t tell the whole unemployment story. But we do: watch our video to uncover the truth about our jobs situation. We also whipped up an infographic and a one-page, more explanatory cheat sheet (with sources) that display the facts presented in the video. All can be viewed or downloaded below:

We need to restrict Term Limits for all politicians and the retirmemt that goes with them. Term limits should be fo r six yeaers only. And when a politcian retires their penision should be based only on these three requirments. Fist currently when a congressperson retires rather it occures after one year of service they get a full penosion making the same they were making while in service. This shpould be stopped. Now with six year term limits a politician can only recieve a penision if they have served four of the six years. Kinda like being vested like all retirement plans are in the private sector. Secondly the amount of pension recieved would be based on the number of years served. For example if they serve only four years of their term then they only recieve 4/6 % percent of ther pension. Third comgress should not be able to give themselves a raise without a nation wide vote. wvoting by phone. Also with technology being what it is all votng should be done by telephone. Just the cost savings along woild be trmendous. We can send a man to the moon and even better we can bring them back I know we have technology that could secure voting by phone. The new gpvernment should issue new SSN# to every legal citizen. An amnesty day should be held for all illegal aliens to turn in the SSN# they have with out penealty, they should granted citizenship only if they have no current felony warrants out on them. This would correct our census. Lastly no alien should be allowed citizenship unless they can recite the first three paragraphs of the constitution and recite the Pledge of Allegence to the Flag. Also we must demand by law that they use english while in public.

I love how these doom and gloom videos act as if there was ever full employment. Since we have never fell below 5% unemployment in the best of times then 5% should be stated as full employment and the real unemployment now is only 4.5%. The 5% that is always unemployeed is either people in transition of jobs or the few that will never get a job. Good thing our governement is making sure that they still get a paycheck with 3yrs extension on unemployment. Everyone I know who is on unemployment is not looking for a job and is working for cash making them more money than they ever made working and paying taxes.
Sorry for complaining on here I think this is a good website and at least someone is taking action but I think these facts should be stated.

This is an “interesting” spin on the job situation, much more political than helpful. The lose of public sector jobs accounts for maintaining some of the unemployment level, while the private sector has begun hiring, albeit too slowly. The conservative stance of most businesses (who only take a chance on a sure thing) helps explain why we creep forward on hiring. When consumers don’t spend, government has to if we’re going to get the economy going again. Having lost my private-sector job and spent the last two years trying to find another, it’s clear to me that most businesses are interested in hiring only younger workers who will work for much less. Unfortunately, when the job market is so bad, no one — even an unemployed worker with solid experience — can complain about age discrimination if she’s over 50.

Unemployment is not a problem. It is a symptom of an underlying dis-ease. To think we can treat the symptoms and succeed as a result is nonsense. By treating the symptoms… the runny nose, the sneezing, the fever… we cannot expect to somehow magically kill the strain of virus attacking us. Mathematically, employment will not be back for 10+ years.

Suffering from the symptoms of unemployment, suicide, depression, busted marriages, hate, anger, impatience, financial depreciation, financial loss, a weak dollar, and despair? There is an underlying problem. Our nation is infected. We have not identified the virus. Our political parties promise they are the job creators. Newly elected officials are going to treat the symptoms… and “things”… they will get worse… much worse.

Stop the nonsense. The virus = we’ve all lost trust. Our mission must be to, measurably, build trust. We can’t kill this virus with money. We can’t buy our way out of this. We have to measurably build trust in ourselves and others and in business, and in markets, and in institutions and at home and far away. After 911 we built trust. Yes, we can fly again.

How to build trust is easy. It might just be answers to questions. Is the stock market rigged? What caused the “Flash Crash”? Where are the financial weapons of mass destruction and toxic financial waste buried? How much money did we print last week? The Chesapeake Bay is largely dead… Why? Fish in our ponds, rivers, and streams are not fit for human consumption… Why? There are no more clams in the sand at our beaches… Why? Why do we put up thousands of tons of bio-accumulative mercury in the air. Why do have more autism? Why do we have more autism than France? Why do have more dementia? We do have less concentrated wealth than Europe? Why do live shorter lives than Europeans? Is nuclear power “green”? Electric cars will require more mercury (coal burning) in the air… Why not burn natural gas?… Why not build nuclear power plants? Does financial performance matter? Ever see a monthly financial report from local, state and federal government? Ever see a monthly financial report from any school district? Why are our tax dollars given freely, as gifts, to business owners?… and… Under what authority? Who are that royal Devine leaders who bestowed gambling in 37+ states without the will of the people?

    Good luck.

I am amused by the folks who have continued in their jobs delusional about the depth of this current economy because it isn’t affecting them, blind to what is going on all around them. I have worked in some similar positions and having an unrealistic idea of how the economy isn’t that bad and how easy it is to succeed even in this market. I ignorantly quit my job with a comprehensive business plan and began pursuing my dream. Things went well for a while then then due to something I had no control over I found myself out of business and looking for work. My background experience included running a 15 million dollar a year service business and building a 20% annual growth into that business. None of that is important except to say that I don’t lack skills but this job market has kept me out of work for over a year and I submit an average of 3 to 5 resumes a day. From all appearances they disappear into the abyss and I continue to have no idea if I was rejected or even seen, just no response. It has been the most demoralizing thing I have ever experienced. The video is not spin for some of us.

only smaller government and fewer taxes will create jobs.

  7. George P says:

For years now all elected officials have been bankrupting America. I’m not talking partys I’m talking all. these elected officials are rich and have their hands in a lot of bussiness’s. they claim to give up control of their holding to a third party but their still over the third party pulling the strings. and they want to make more profits so they vote in free trade or to lower import taxes then ship their manufracting over seas. there are a lot of building here in Dallas that years ago let say 25 used to hold a plant for cars that was shut down. The jobs were sent to Old Mexico. America has no garment manufactring plants anymore when I was younger they were ever where. If we want to save America we have to change our way of thinking at home and at the polls. My daughter bought some sandles for her feet when she removed them I tought where were they made I picked them up expecting to see China on them some where and what to my suprise it sayed Vietman. 85 % of thing sold in America today is made in China our Tech support is going to Old Mexico or Aficra or japan 800 number and the internet opened up a whole new world for bussiness to off shore jobs. cheaper workers more profits. What we need is higher import taxes on everything shipped over there that can not by law be passed on to the consumer. make it just as high to have it made over in China or other parts of the world and shipped over here as it would be to make it over here using American hands. start an import tax for phone lines coming from over seas also. next time a telephone sales person calls who dont talk good english or American ask them where they are from, what country are you calling from I’ll bet it wont be over here. WE HAVE TO HAVE JOBS TO PUT OUR PEOPLE TO WORK or America will be bankrupt in just a few years. vote your pocket book next time you go to the polls to vote.

Response to John: I agree, there is job discrimination due to age and gender. I have been a RN for over 30 years, there is a shortage of nurses as the public well knows but they would rather put our old bones on the road doing “Travel Nursing” than keep us home and healthy to serve the public. God help the politiciain that looks at me and says “Help me”. Has he/she helped me? No, this whole economic mess is the result of biased voting and false promises to make things better for ALL citizens. This is a young persons world and work force because they can and do displace us dinosaurs for much less money….in addition to experience. I am following closely the political schemes that are going down these days. NOT PRETTY. In Eastern civilizations at least they care for their elders, here they throw them to the wind.
