Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released monthly state and regional unemployment numbers for April. The report shows three states and the District of Columbia recorded an unemployment rate increase, 39 states saw an unemployment rate decrease, and eight states experienced no change. In March, Michigan lost 10,200 jobs, Minnesota lost 5,200, and South Carolina lost 3,800. Meanwhile, the largest increases in jobs occurred in New York (+45,700), Texas (+32,900), and Pennsylvania (+23,700). Nevada’s unemployment rate of 12.5% is down from last month, but remains the highest in the nation. California’s 11.9% unemployment rate is the second highest. Florida registered the third highest rate at 11.1%. North Dakota reported the lowest jobless rate of 3.3%.
