Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) did not have enough votes for his Plan B tax plan. He cancelled the vote and the House adjourned for Christmas. The Associated Press, Bloomberg, The Hill, The New York Times, Politico, Roll Call, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal have the story.

Bloomberg says the stock market is reacting badly to the collapse.
