Budgeting with band-aids

April 5, 2011

This week has brought another round of budget negotiations. And with Congress’ inability to pass a long-term funding solution for fiscal year 2011, there have been many such weeks. Instead of funding the government through an annual budget, lawmakers have been constantly passing short-term continuing resolutions (CR). And as the current CR ends April 8, a partial government shutdown looms.

In the latest news, House Republicans are planning to kick the can down the road a bit more. They’re currently considering a CR to fund the Pentagon through the end of the year, but provide the rest of the federal government with funds for just another week. Congressional Democrats are opposing the measure.
