Fashionomics: a study in the state of our economy and dress

March 25, 2011

Spring is in the air. And with spring comes the obligatory wardrobe transition – put away the flannel pants and pull out the shorts and t-shirts. And while everybody has their own sense of style, there may be something at play that you have no control over.

History shows that as the economy fluctuates, the hemline length on women’s skirts reflects the change. And the connection between fashion and the economy doesn’t stop there. From neckties to lipstick, the state of the economy is echoed in our state of dress.

One Response to Fashionomics: a study in the state of our economy and dress

  1. Alex Burford says:

The part about the economy and clothing that I pay attention is how much is being spent on clothing and accessories by American Consumers. That is what drives the economic engine and makes a huge contribution to annual GDP.

I am getting ever more concerned about this economy because the dollar has lost 7% of its value in the past year and the Russian ruble is among the currencies that will surpass it soon. The Federal Gov’t. continues to show incompetance and apathy regarding the economy and it almost doesn’t matter if the Illegal Occupant of the White house is reelected or not….he has done more than sufficient harm as he wanted to along with the National Socialist Democrats in Congress and now, we ALL SUFFER because of the Immaturity, Stupididty and Hatred of Cheerleading Al Gore and the American People.
