According to the Economist, 37% of Americans expect government spending to increase a lot over the next four years; 14% expect it to increase a little; 20% expect it to stay about the same; 16% expect it to decrease a little; and 3% expect it to decrease a lot.

According to Gallup, 72% of Americans  said it is extremely important to make “major cuts in federal spending.”

According to Gallup, 88% of Americans said it is extremely important to make “major steps to ensure the long-term stability of Social Security and Medicare.”

According to the Economist, 31% of Americans expect their taxes to increase a lot over the next four years; 23% expect them to increase a little; 29% expect them to stay about the same; 6% expect them to decrease a little; and 2% expect them to decrease a lot.
