Washington lawmakers are fully engaged in discussions about how to deal with the fiscal cliff.

Congress may also consider raising the debt ceiling during the lame duck session.

Any time Congress meets after the November election but before the new Congress takes effect (generally on or around January 3), it is considered a lame-duck session1.
