New Ad: Congress, Give Us Something To Be Thankful For

After Supercommittee Failure, Public Notice Continues To Hold Congress’ Feet To The Fire

Arlington, VA – Just as the “not so” supercommittee admits defeat, Bankrupting America – a project of Public Notice is back boldly displaying a billboard ad “Congress, give us something to be thankful for.” The ad is part of a sustained campaign on the part of Public Notice to ensure elected officials in Washington keep promises made to their constituents.

Gretchen Hamel, executive director of Public Notice, said the following:

“The supercommittee failed and missed an historic opportunity to cut spending, but Congress still has a job to do. They shouldn’t need a committee to do what is a basic responsibility of the legislature: create a budget that allows the United States to live within its means and get serious about reforming the entitlement and other spending programs that drive our debt.

“We aren’t going to let them off the hook, and neither will the American people.”

When Congress created the supercommittee last summer, Bankrupting America was already a leading voice in raising awareness of the desperate need for Washington to get spending under control and pushing elected officials to make meaningful spending cuts and stop business-as-usual.

This latest billboard reinforces the need for leaders to demonstrate courage and a serious commitment to both fiscal responsibility and our nation’s economic recovery.

Bankrupting America’s billboard is located at 11th St NW and G St NW, Washington, D.C. and will run for four weeks.
