Is the U.S. Government in an Unstoppable Deficit Streak?
With 33 Straight Months in the Red – Let’s Hope Not!
Arlington, VA – The federal government ran a deficit of $43.1 billion in June, marking the 33rd straight month in the red, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement, released today by the U.S. Treasury.
Gretchen Hamel, Executive Director of Public Notice, said the following:
“It’s ironic, if not sad, that Washington will only begin having discussions about cutting spending when they are days away from slamming into the debt ceiling.
“The debt ceiling debate is important, but it’s also the beginning of what should be a long national conversation about getting our fiscal house in order.”
