UNEMPLOYMENT DIPS IN OCTOBER
Arlington, VA – This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the Employment Situation Report for October. Although the U.S. added 80,000 jobs for the month of October, the report shows the unemployment rate changed very little, falling from 9.1 percent to 9.0 percent.
Gretchen Hamel, Executive Director of Public Notice, said the following:
“Month after month these numbers change little, if at all. What also doesn’t change is the need for Washington to wake up and demonstrate real courage and a serious commitment to fiscal responsibility.
“This should be a reminder to the super committee, with its November 23rd deadline fast approaching, that our economy is still in trouble and we can’t continue on our present course. If we want a real economic recovery, we need real spending cuts to help get government off the back of the job creators.”
