Arlington, Va. – The Senate Finance Committee today took a small step forward with another hearing on “confronting the looming fiscal crisis,” yet once again put off any meaningful action to reduce the reckless government spending and massive debt at the heart of the issue.

Gretchen Hamel, executive director of Public Notice, released the following statement urging policymakers of both parties to come together and address one of the most predictable fiscal crises our nation has ever faced:

With the national debt now larger than the entire size of the U.S. economy, the American people don’t need another Washington hearing to recognize spending is out of control.  They want leaders who aren’t afraid to take bold action to cut spending and make the tough decisions to head off this fiscal crisis.  Americans get it, but Washington doesn’t.  While today’s hearing was a small step in the right direction, Americans already know spending is the problem; it’s time for real solutions.
