Stop the rhetoric. It’s time to act.

January 24, 2012

As we mentioned yesterday, the State of the Union, intended to be a hopeful look into the future, seems to have become more of a venue to deliver empty promises. At least when it comes to addressing the federal government’s spending problem and, ultimately, our national debt.

For generations, from Republican and Democratic presidents, we’ve heard well-intentioned plans to control the nation’s fiscal imbalances. And we still find ourselves over $15 trillion in debt. Only by reining in overspending can we begin to address the debt burden that is putting an economic recovery in jeopardy.  It’s past time for bold spending reforms.

Our latest video calls out Presidents of both parties.

For more on empty promises in past State of the Union addresses check out our latest fact sheet here.

We have been made aware that many Law Makers and their staff are behind on their taxes. Even Government workers are behind. Here we are, so in debt and your people aren’t paying your “fair share”. I believe that if someone working for the Government is behind on their taxes, they should lose their position or their job. Why is this no pursued? This would bring in BILLIONS of dollars. There are people suffering out here.

As a citizen that has worked all my life and had a small business, I always paid my taxes. In fact, I was taxed “my fair share” during that time and I paid it. Now, that I am retired, I pay taxes AGAIN on my social security. Of course, I consider this double taxation. Why aren’t the above mentioned paying their “fair share”? Do you even understand how sick this makes us citizens out here who are paying your wages feel? We are working hard and now with the economy being so bad, it is getting very difficult to make ends meet.

I understand that this is in committee, waiting to be acted on. Please do your job, and check into this.

I’m fed up with all this rhetoric. This Nation economy is on it’s way down . Soon we will go bust.

I agree. I worked as a teenager to get clothes and school supplies.

Now I get a $5.00 Social Security raise per month and they take $3.50 of that for medicare increase. No raises in retirement pension and these guys continue to fiddle away all our hard-earned money while they are more concerned about staying in office.

    No more.

OK… We get the message on spending. Why no mention of taxes? Shouldn’t that be part of the solution? How about a little balance…

Reforming the tax code is a fair debate to have, Jeremy. But I believe we should start with spending.

This video cites state of the union addresses out of context for rhetorical purpose.

How is it taken out of context? I think it’s pretty clear.
